Black Hair Care is very important to maintain healthy luxurious hair.  Though some people may think this is not possible on black hair.  I assure that it is indeed possible.  The first rule of thumb for healthy black hair is to avoid double processing your hair.  In other words if you are wearing a relaxer, avoid a permanent color or highlights  use a semi permanent color or rinse for a color or get a hair weave or extensions with different colors that can act a highlights in the hair.  If you choose to get highlights, make it minimal no more than 12 foils so if there is breakage it will be very minimal.  If you decide to wear highlights with a relaxer you must commit to protein treatments biweekly and keep up on your daily vitamins to minimize breakage.  Use  a liquid protein treatment such as Dudley's DRC28 protein treatment.  This is an exactly treatment to keep the hair strengthen.   Permanent colors and relaxers don't tend to go together on black hair unless you are wearing your hair very short.  If your hair is pass your ears you will tend to get a lot of breakage if you choose to wear a relaxer with permanent color.  Clients with thicker hair tend to be able to wear this together with shorter hair but they do suffer breakage.

Black Hair tend to do better with permanent color if the hair is  worn natural with no relaxers.   Double processing just don't fair well on black or ethnic hair.  Lets talk about Relaxers on black hair for a minute.  Relaxers are great for strengthening the hair but you must keep up with your treatments to maintain healthy relaxed hair.  It is also important to use the correct strength relaxers suitable for your hair type.  The home or kit relaxers are not the best to use.  I am totally against anyone relaxing their hair by themselves....that is a ticket to diaster.  The home relaxers comes with a pretreatment that you should put on your hair before relaxing if you are using it.  This deposits itself in the hair shaft to prevent the hair being calcified as these relaxers are made up of calcium hydroxide.  Calcium deposits itself in the porous areas of the hair causing calcification on the hair shaft.   What does this mean......Your hair becomes puffy, dry and look unrelaxed when wet.  The pretreatment placed in the kit is placed there for you to use to avoid calcification.    Also under relaxed hair can also cause breakage.  Meaning if the hair is not relaxed properly it will also break.  The solution, have your hair professionally relaxed with a professional relaxer.
